Charleston Benne Cookies Beth Hickman Yield: 10 dozen;(recipe may be halved) ¾ cup butter, melted 1½ cups brown sugar, packed ¾ cup flour 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla ¼ tsp. salt ¼ tsp. baking powder 1 cup hulled sesame seeds, toasted Mix all ingredients well. Drop by ¼ or ½ teaspoon amounts onto cookie sheets lined with foil or a Teflon liner. Bake 3 to 7 minutes, according to size, at 375o. Watch carefully, as they burn easily. Cool slightly on sheets, then peel off liner and finish cooling on a rack. For even cookies: Chill the dough until firm. roll into marble-sized balls. Place on lined cookie sheets, flatten, and bake as above. |
