Almond Meringues

1 cup soft butter
1/2 cup almond paste
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 egg
2 cups sifted flour
3/4 cup raspberry jam
3 egg whites
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup flaked coconut
1/2 cup ground almonds (use Cuisinart)

Cream butter and almond paste, add brown sugar and egg. Blend in flour. Bake at 325o for 20 minutes in a 13x9x2 inch pan. Spread top with jam. Beat egg whites until frothy, add remaining sugar. Beat until stiff. Fold in coconut and ground almonds. Spread on top. Return to oven for 20 minutes more. Cut immediately with a knife dipped into hot water. This can be frozen. Best if made a few days in advance.
